Well after a cup of coffee and much banter we left Eksteen fontain at about 9 am heading to Stienkhoff vie the orange river route to Voeilsdriff, the intrepid navigator took us up one road that led us to the Rooiberg conservatory rest camp (he told us that this was intentional as he wanted to show us the place even if it was a dead end), now I would recommend this place to any outdoor enthusiast that wants to get a way for it all here there is miles and miles of F@#^all. After turning back we headed for the correct road , the road took us through some of the best arid and beautiful terrain that you can imagine there were roads, then there were no roads just goat tracks it was great ,the bikes including Harries big vstrom handled the route with ease , the landy driving expertly by Jeremy negotiated some tight turns and some rocky drop-offs like an expert, the bike eventually had to wait for us under a tree for an hour as we had take some of the road in 4X4 2nd gear low range .
We stopped for a picnic lunch next to the river, here we rested for about an hour and let the bikes and the landy cool off, after lunch we headed the 80km or so from Voielsdriff to Steinkhof here we met up with Greg who had now joined us for the trip after his important ( mothersday) meeting the day before. We re-supplied in Steinkhof, fuel, food, cool drinks etc; the wan-be burgermester had us all in fits as only people of these parts can have you.We headed out to our night stop for the day at the poverty uplifitment B&B Kook fountain about one Km outside Steinkhof on the Voielsdriff road.
This B&B made budget for the month and I think the R1000.00 we spent here will go on to the community(we hope) unfortunately the town had a problem with water and we had to wait some time for a shower ,not pleasant after you have been on the road all day, great braai was had and some fines were handed out for unfortunate events or mishaps, here we found that Jeremy is a great source of entertainment because he started to make up fines so that he could have a extra drink , we all when to bed and that was great and very comfortable but woke up to no water , however Deloris and her team went to great efforts to bring in portable water , Kook fontain accommodation great place to stay just make sure there is water
